Solo Phone Phind Ride on the Way Home From Rockburn Park

1024101641

Parted with Jen and the kids at Rockburn park for a solo ride on the Surly 1X1.  Conditions were dry and fast with a little leaf cover here and there.  Rockburn>Landing>Log>MC>Old Track>MC>Connector>Ridge ALternate>Ridge>Connector>MC>right at 4 way>RBB down right>RBB up left>RBB down middle>Belmont Woods>home

The second time I passed thru the 4 way I heard a phone ringing..not mine.  I dismounted and followed the sound into the brush and saw the phone in the leaves.  The super lucky phone owner was at his car at the park and ride and had just noticed that he couldn't locate his phone.  15 minutes late the owner and his super nice HTC smart phone were reunited at Montgomery and Elibank;-)  Twas lucky for him that the Blandfords decided not to go to DCCX on Sunday;-)

Also noticed this new sign on Belmont Woods trail where it crosses private land on the way to Rockburn Branch.

Family Ride at Rockburn Park

Beautiful Indian summer weather and a Nys family sighting on the hayride;-)

Drove the kids up to Rockburn park.  The park's got haunted hayrides leaving from the parking lot downhill from the playground but we had no money;-(
Jen was scheduled to meet up with us via MTB as she was biking with the gurlz and rode over to Rockburn.  She broke her chain and rear derailleur and bent up her derailleur hanger pretty good when she got into Rockburn.

Ben and I went for a ride around Rockburn together.  He was cleaning everything and shifting smartly....that's my boy!!  Ben and I got back close to the car and ran into JoJo and the girls.  Jen was assisting JoJo on the trail with his 12" Trek sans training wheels.  Hopefully in a couple more sessions he'll be more independent.  Abby, Ben, and Elisabeth rode the log jam (with just a little assistance from mom or dad).

I love this online calculator. Allows multiple choice of rings, cogs,
and gives you gear inches and skid patches.

Fall Friday DP in the Dark in the Park

Got out with Baler for a quick clockwise loop.  He was SS of, course,
and I rode the Groundhog cuz I felt like rolling some gears (not to
mention, my front brake pads are shot on the Surly).
Temp in the high 40s meant comfortable in long sleeve and tights.
Trails were in great shape, just starting to get some leaf cover.
Cleaned some tough sections and dabbed some others.  Still dark at the
end of our ride.  MagicShine is back in bizness with a new Ebay
battery.

Stolen Dawn Vassagos Ride

CBC and I met at Landing at 6. Snoop was blinking as usual. Bizzaro
Bill was a no-show;-( CBC rode his Jabberwocky and I rode the
Fisticuff with a new Forte saddle to test ride it for Sunday at
Granogue. Clockwise loop with a down-up-down option on Rockburn
Branch and some Nachos and Renegade thrown in at the end. Stole the
entire ride before the rain started pouring;-)

Hotel Riding in Ocean City

Whoa!  Watch out for that wall!

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdc-lZEdeKg?wmode=transparent]

Four Recent Rides (Two Down the Ocean, Hon)

Over the last 2 weeks:

Down the Ocean OC to Fenwick Quick Ride

While Baltimore was getting 8 inches of rain, the weather in OC was just windy and cloudy.  Rode north from the Carousel Hotel with a tail wind.  Turned around at Fenwick Island State Park.  Lopped past the Fenwick Island lighthouse.  Took a dip in a rough ocean.  Didn't go in over my thighs cuz the longshore current woulda sent me 2 blocks north per minute.

First TMR in Ages

Broke the Huffy fixie out for a TMR last week.  All the usual suspects and some new suspects since the last time I joined.  Big gaps between front and back of pack these days.  I shortcutted Rockwell for the first time ever, those guys are fast or I am slow (probably the latter).

Pre-Seagull Naylor Mill MTB

For 3 years now my buddy jack and I have been meeting on the Friday before Seagull at what MTBR calls the best MTB trails on the Eastern Shore.  Naylor Mill Park in Salisbury is a spaghetti network of twisty singletrack.  Lots of skinnies and fun manmade bridges too.  I wore out my front Avid disc pads to the springs and had to remove them mid ride.  Saw 3 other bikers out there for the first time and I've been at least 5 or 6 times.

2010 Seagull Century

Perfect weather (high 70's not a cloud in the sky) made for a fun Seagull.  Rode with my buddy, Jack, and his friend Walt.  All three of us on Fixies.  I took out the Soma Special Ed with a 48X17 instead of opting for the Huffy.  Jumped on a nice 22mph train on the way to rest stop 1.  Chatted with these dudes that have a recumbent-reverse-facing-tandem...pretty wild.  Rode a 20mph train into rest stop 2.  Saw Baler and Betsy there on their way out.  Lotsa ambulances in the first 40 miles too.  I hope no one's hurt real bad.  Drafted at about 19mph with a group of four on the way to rest stop 3 at Assateague.  Saw some ponies and took a dip in the Atlantic.  Felt so good!  After rest stop 3 I didn't ride with any more big groups.  Average speed suffered but the workout was enhanced.  Rest stop 4 had cherry pie and ice cream.  Finished up, grabbed t-shirt, bid farewell to Baler in the beer garden.
